Springfield Police Department Acting Chief Robert Williams today reminded Springfield motorists that two new laws aimed at cutting down on distracted drivers go into effect on January 1st.
The two new laws will:
1. Prohibit drivers from composing text messages or reading text messages while driving.
2. Make it illegal to talk on a cell phone will driving through a school zone or highway construction project.
“These two laws are aimed at curbing drivers who become distracted while using electric communication tools,” Williams said. “SPD Officers want to make our streets safe and these two new laws will be helpful.”
“Motorists are also encouraged to slow down and pay attention to posted traffic signs,” Williams said, “since these signs are aimed at giving motorists information.”
