Springfield City Police have arrested Bradley C. Barber, a 20-year employee, after he allegedly placed a noose on a forklift in a city facility today.

Barber was arrested at his place of work this afternoon. He was transported to the Springfield Police Station where he was being interviewed, and is being booked in the Sangamon County Jail.

Barber was immediately placed on unpaid leave by CWLP General Manager Todd Renfrow.

“I have made it clear at every opportunity I had this week that this behavior will not be tolerated in our community,” Mayor Tim Davlin said. “We cannot and will not put up with this kind of activity in the workplace, or anyplace. The hanging of a noose anywhere is inappropriate behavior and will be dealt with firmly.”

The employee was still at work, so an arrest was made at the job site.

Both the FBI and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney have been contacted about this incident. All information gathered will be forwarded to the State’s Attorney for his review to determine what charges will be forthcoming.
