City promotes safe summer activities for children

Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin, Assistant Police Chief Robert Williams and Ward 2 Alderman Gail Simpson held a "Have a Safe Summer" rally at Union Baptist Church to promote safety for children now that school is out. Reverend McJunkins kicked off the rally calling on children to do the right thing and not get into trouble when there are so many other safe things they could do. Members of his congregation and others created posters and banners promoting safe summertime activities, to help others understand the importance of staying away from drugs, gangs and other things that could get them into trouble.
