Crimes on the decline in Springfield

The index of major crimes in Springfield shows a marked decrease in the number of incidents. The 10% decrease covers the first four months of 2009 as compared to the same period last year.

"While it is nice to see these numbers decrease, we cannot let down our guard when it comes to law enforcement," Mayor Tim Dalvin said. "We must remain ever vigilent and continue to pursue criminals on every front."

"These figures reflect a good job done by officers on the Springfield Police Department. We must continue to support them as they continue to protect and serve."
